What Claude Tag launch credits pay for — and what they don't

Think of launch credits as a shared pool for team-visible @Claude work in Slack channels — not a personal allowance, and they don't stretch across every Claude product.

Launch credits cover

  • @Claude tasks in shared Slack channels

  • Org-billed Claude Tag consumption

  • Channel work scoped by your admins

Launch credits do NOT cover

  • Personal Claude DMs in Slack(billed to the individual)

  • Claude Code, Cowork, or API usage

  • Claude usage outside Slack(web app, desktop)

Why the DM distinction matters for finance: when someone direct-messages Claude inside Slack, that usage typically bills to their individual Claude account, not your organization's launch credits. A quiet $2,500 Team pool is for channel collaboration — DM-heavy habits won't draw it down, and won't be covered by it either.

Team vs Enterprise launch credits: who gets what

The headline difference is the amount, but the eligibility rule is what most Team admins need to check.

Enterprise —

$25,000

Issued to eligible Claude Enterprise organizations. No public seat minimum has been reported; eligibility follows your Enterprise agreement.

Team —

$2,500

10+ seats

Only with 10+ paid seats. This is the threshold that catches small teams. A Team plan with fewer than 10 paid seats likely does not qualify.

The 10-seat line

A 6-person Team workspace probably won't see a launch credit. A 12-person Team workspace likely will. If you're close to the line, count paid seats specifically, and verify in your admin console before you plan around the money.

Pro and Free plans don't get Claude Tag at all — it's a Team/Enterprise product — so there's no launch credit at those tiers.

How billing works: channel usage vs Slack DMs

Claude Tag billing is consumption-based — you pay for what @Claude actually does, not a flat per-seat fee. Two separate meters run:

Billed to the ORGANIZATION

Channel usage is what your launch credits offset. Admins set the budget.

Covered by credits
vs.

Billed to the INDIVIDUAL's Claude account

Direct messages with Claude in Slack. Launch credits do NOT apply here.

Not covered

This split is the single biggest source of confusion in finance reviews: the launch credit is an org-level channel pool, deliberately separate from anyone's personal Claude usage.

How to verify your launch credits in the Claude admin console

Because every number on this page is media-reported, confirm your own situation directly:

1

A Primary Owner or Owner signs in to the Claude admin settings (claude.ai/admin-settings/claude-tag). The Admin role can't configure this.

2

Open the usage / billing area for your organization.

3

Check whether a launch credit balance is shown — note the amount and expiry.

If you don't see a credit and believe you qualify (Enterprise, or Team with 10+ paid seats), confirm with your Primary Owner and Anthropic support — eligibility can depend on your plan details.

We don't show admin screenshots to avoid presenting unofficial UI as fact.

Migrate before August 3 to actually use your launch credits

Launch credits only help if Claude Tag is live in your workspace. The old Claude in Slack app retires August 3, 2026, and administrators have a 30-day window (from the June 23 launch — roughly until July 23) to opt in and configure access on their own terms before the switch becomes automatic.

By ~July 23

Opt in and configure manually for a controlled cutover.

August 3, 2026

The old app stops; workspaces switch to Claude Tag.

Set spend limits so you don't burn credits on day one

A $2,500 or $25,000 pool sounds generous until an enthusiastic channel runs heavy async tasks for a week. Because Claude Tag is consumption-based, the controls matter as much as the credit:

$0
75% alert95% alert
Org hard cap

Organization-wide hard cap — set monthly spend during setup (one of Anthropic's four setup steps).

Per-channel limits — so one busy channel can't drain the shared pool.

Alerts at 75% & 95% — admins get notified as the cap approaches.

Per-channel spend breakdown — see where credits are actually going.

MediaConfigure these before you invite @Claude into more than a test channel.

What happens after September 1 — or when credits run out

Launch credits are a one-time promotional pool, not an ongoing discount. When they're exhausted, or after September 1, 2026:

  • Claude Tag continues to work; usage simply moves to regular consumption billing against your organization's spend.

  • Any unused balance does not roll over, per current reporting.

  • Your spend caps and per-channel limits keep applying — so nothing runs away the moment credits end.
