Claude Tag Pricing — What It Really Costs Per Month (2026)
Claude Tag isn't free and isn't a flat fee. Your real cost is three layers: a Claude Team or Enterprise plan (per seat), consumption-based @Claude usage billed to your organization, and one-time launch credits that offset the start and expire September 1, 2026. Estimate your monthly range below.

Is Claude Tag free?
No.
Claude Tag requires a paid Claude Team or Enterprise plan, and @Claude channel work is billed on consumption to your organization on top of seats. The only "free" part is the one-time launch credit, which offsets early usage but expires September 1, 2026.
So treat the launch credit as a free trial budget, not a free product. While it lasts, your channel usage can be effectively covered so you can evaluate Claude Tag without a usage bill — but the seat cost still applies, and the credit runs out.
The only "free" part
A one-time launch credit offsets your early @Claude usage — a free trial budget, not a free product. Seats still cost money, and the credit expires.
Launch credit · expires Sep 1, 2026What actually drives Claude Tag's cost — the 3 layers
The confusion around Claude Tag pricing comes from stacking three different billing mechanisms into one question. To understand how much Claude Tag costs per month, separate them: (1) Seats — your baseline Claude Team or Enterprise subscription, billed per user; (2) Usage — consumption-based @Claude channel work, billed dynamically to your organization; (3) Credits — a temporary launch credit that offsets early usage but expires. Budgeting for Claude Tag means planning for the steady state of seats plus usage, not just the promotional period.
Layer 1 — Seats
Fixed · OfficialYour Claude plan, per user / month.
Layer 2 — Usage
Variable · billed to org@Claude channel work, consumption-based.
Layer 3 — Credits
One-time · expires Sep 1, 2026A launch credit that offsets early usage.
Most 'Claude Tag costs $25,000' headlines confuse Layer 3 with the actual price. The $25,000 (Enterprise) or $2,500 (Team) is a promotional launch credit — a temporary offset — not what Claude Tag costs. Your ongoing cost is Layer 1 (seats) plus Layer 2 (usage). Plan around the steady state.
The Claude plan you need first (and what a seat costs)
Claude Tag is in beta for Claude Team and Enterprise plans — Pro and Free can't use it. So your first cost is a Claude plan seat. Here are the official list prices; usage for Claude Tag is billed separately on top.
| Plan | Per seat / month | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Team — Standard | Per seat / month$20(annual)/$25(monthly) | NotesNo Claude Code; 5–150 seats |
| Team — Premium | Per seat / month$100(annual)/$125(monthly) | NotesIncludes Claude Code, 5× usage |
| Enterprise | Per seat / monthCustomcontact sales | NotesSeat + usage at API rates; sales-assisted |
OfficialOfficial list prices from claude.com/pricing, last checked Jun 26, 2026 — may change. Enterprise is custom (contact sales); don't budget off a fixed number.
You can mix seat types in one org — Premium seats for developers (Claude Code), Standard for everyone else. Right-sizing seats is the easiest lever on Layer 1.
How Claude Tag usage is billed
Layer 2 is consumption-based. @Claude work inside a Slack channel bills to your organization and draws against your credits or your plan's usage. There's no public flat per-task price — it scales with the tokens each task uses, at API rates — which is why a spend cap matters.
Channel work and DM work are two different wallets.
Two things keep finance teams from getting surprised. First, a Claude DM in Slack bills to that person's individual Claude account — not your org. Second, because usage is variable, a single busy channel or ambient mode left wide open can consume far more than a quiet one.
How launch credits offset your first months
Eligible orgs get a one-time launch credit that offsets Layer 2 usage until it's spent or expires September 1, 2026. It doesn't cover seats, and unused balance doesn't appear to roll over — so use it before the deadline.

How to control cost — set spend limits before you roll out
Because Layer 2 is variable, the single biggest cost risk is an uncapped rollout. Before you go wide, set an organization hard cap plus per-channel limits. You'll get alerts at 75% and 95% and a per-channel spend breakdown, so one channel — or ambient mode — can't drain the budget.
Per-channel limits
Over-limit tasks are declined outright (not truncated); the blocked user can request more budget right inside Slack.
Treat it like any consumption budget. Set the org-wide hard cap first, then per-channel limits on top, and set the default that new channels inherit deliberately. Set caps high enough that real work isn't blocked.
Spend-limit behavior is from press coverage consistent with Anthropic's spend-control description and may change in beta. Media
Scope channels and set limits during setup →What Claude Tag costs after credits run out
When the launch credit expires Sep 1, 2026, or you spend it sooner, nothing switches off — Layer 2 just starts hitting your bill at regular consumption rates, on top of seats. The practical move is to estimate that steady-state number now, so it isn't a surprise.
Set your spend cap at a level you're comfortable paying once the promo pool is gone, not at the level the credit allowed. If the steady-state estimate is high, narrow Claude Tag to the few channels where delegation clearly pays off.
